Hwaet is the duo of Vanessa Rossetto and Steven Flato. From 2007 to 2008, they created
a number of recordings which were then compiled, along with new material, into the pieces
that make up their 2010 self-titled debut. Their debut straddles the line between
composition and improvisation, with a creative process that encapsulates the two and poses
them against each other in counterpoint. Despite being the result of a three year process,
Hwaet maintains a sense of interactive buoyancy that belies the process in which it was created.

Vanessa Rossetto is a composer and painter from Austin, Texas. She uses primarily chamber
instrumentation, field recordings, electronics and a wide array of different objects exploring
them through extended and traditional techniques and other methods of her own devising.
In 2008, she launched her own CD-R label, Music Appreciation. Through this imprint she
has released four solo albums: Misafridal, Imperial Brick, Whoreson in the Wilderness and
Dogs in English Porcelain. In 2010 she released the cassette PDD-NOS on period.tapes,
and has a forthcoming LP, Mineral Orange, scheduled for release on KYE records.

Steven Flato is a New York based composer and sound artist working primarily in the areas
inhabited in between composition and improvisation. Using live sound manipulation, broken
electronics, small objects and guitar, he transforms and rearranges his own sound and the sound
of his collaborators in live settings and on record. His compositions are often sourced from
improvisations, utilize recurring and intuitive processes, and the transformation of non-audio
data into sound. He runs the abrash.org label, and is also a member of the groups Fyxzis (with
Corey Larkin and Richard Kamerman), and Mouth to Mouth (with Daniel Moore of Family Treasures).
